Thangalaan is one of the most expected films from the Tamil film industry. Starring actor Vikram in the lead role, the film is directed by Pa Ranjith and was supposed to have released in January. However, the date got pushed and a new release date is yet to be announced.

When asked about the update about the release, Pa Ranjith opened up that they are awaiting the date to be announced for the 2024 Indian general elections that will be held between April and May.

When will Thangalaan release?

Pa Ranjith who last made Natchathiram Nagargiradhu, is next working with Vikram in Thangalaan. The high-budget film was initially supposed to have released on January 26 but got pushed to various reasons.

Recently speaking at the celebrity show of J Baby, Ranjith revealed when Thangalaan will be releasing. “Thangalaan will come very soon and all the works are completed. We are just waiting for the election dates to be announced and once that is out, we will appropriately announce the release date. There are many rumours going on and none of them are true. The film is nearing completion and we must just apply for the censor certificate. Once the election dates are out, we will be applying for it as well. Thangalaan has come out well and I hope people will like it as much as I do,” Ranjith said while conversing with the press.

Thangalaan is one of the big-budget Tamil films awaiting release this year. It is to be noted that many big films are awaiting the election date to announce the release window. Besides Vikram, the film also stars Malavika Mohanan, Pasupathy, Parvathu Thiruvottu, among others.

The film is a period drama set against the backdrop of Kola Gold Fields. The period actioner will mark Vikram’s first collaboration with Pa Ranjith who is known for his distinct voice to highlight the plight of the oppressed through his films. With GV Prakash music, Thangalaan is co-produced by Studio Green and Neelam Productions.
