OTTplay Awards 2025: Ali Fazal and Richa Chadha’s Girls Will Be Girls bags Best Movie

Actors Ali Fazal and Richa Chadha’s production banner Pushing Buttons Studios backed the 2024 film Girls Will Be Girls. The coming-of-age drama, which explores the teenage years of a young girl and her sexual awakening, has bagged the Best Movie Award at the third edition of OTTplay Award 2025, which was held in Mumbai on March 22.

Girls Will Be Girls is written and directed by Shuchi Talati in her directorial debut. The film features a humble cast comprising of actors Preeti Panigrahi, Kani Kusruti, and Kesav Binoy Kiron. It is to be noted that Girls Will Be Girls is the debut production of Ali Fazal and Richa Chadha’s banner, and has had a fantastic run at the international festival circuit. An Indian-French co-production, the film premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, before making its streaming debut on Prime Video.

The coming-of-age drama is set against the backdrop of a quaint locale of a boarding school. It follows a high school teenager Mira Kishore, who is an achiever. Still yet to explore her sexuality and come to terms with her feelings, she shares a strained relationship with her protective mother. The film is an excellent examination of a girl's teenage years, which is bound by restrictive society.

Girls Will Be Girls took direct to OTT release, and is available on Prime Video.

OTTplay Awards 2025 also saw the who’s who of Indian OTT space turn up, celebrating the theme - “One Nation, One Award”. Kajol, Imtiaz Ali, and more were also honoured at the award function, which had celebs from film industries including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada.
