It’s always exciting to watch big-screen stars debut on OTT, because that often means that audiences get to see them in unconventional roles — ones they perhaps wouldn’t attempt on the big screen. This was the case with Sonakshi Sinha, who made her OTT debut with the hit web series Daahad, which also stars Gulshan Devaiah and Vijay Varma.
"This award is extremely special because it's for Dahaad. I cannot tell you how amazing it was for me as an actor to be part of this show, and to be working with this team. Reema Kagti, Zoya Akhtar, oh my god these women are insanely creative and they are just pure genius. It was such a special working with them. It was Ritesh Sidhwani who suggested I play Anjali Bhaati. I don't know from where it (the idea) struck him, but I am so glad that it did. It's so amazing for an actor when makers can see you in a way nobody has ever seen you before. It is such a pleasure to portray that kind of character on screen and that's what happened with Dahaad. It's too, too special," Sonakshi Sinha said in her victory speech while dedicating the award to the entire cast and crew behind Dahaad.
"I hope that Dahaad is heard far and wide. Thank you OTTplay," she added.
Reema Kagti and Zoya Akhtar’s procedural crime drama saw Sonakshi play Anjali Bhaati, a headstrong sub-inspector in a small village in Rajasthan who is tasked with hunting down a serial killer.
While the series was rated well by critics and audiences, Sonakshi got special praise for her portrayal of a fiesty cop who defies social constraints and is headfast in her hunt for a killer who no one else pays much attention to.

Critics lauded Sonakshi for standing out with her captivating performance in the web series. She was able to convincingly play a female police officer who comes across as imposing — something she has to overplay to earn the respect of the others (read men) she works with.

Dahaad to return for a second season
There’s some good news for fans of Sonakshi and the show. The makers confirmed recently that Dahaad will be back for a second season. Zoya Akhtar confirmed that Reema Kagti has a script for the second season that she’s currently working on. Clearly, Sonakshi has been able to successfully transition from a commercial Bollywood heroine to an OTT leading lady that we can’t help but take notice of.

OTTplay Awards 2023 took place at Taj Land's End in Bandra, Mumbai, on October 29, 2023. The event was attended by some of the most notable names in the OTT space. The ceremony was presented by Danube Properties alongside Dabur Chyawanprash and driven by Volkswagen. Colors Infinity is the telecast partner.
