Rakul Preet Singh has been declared the Editor’s Choice for Best Actor female in a film at the recently held OTTplay Awards 2023. She took the trophy home for her performance in Chhatriwali. The film educates one about safe practices, in a humorous way.

Here's all you need to know about Rakul and Chhatriwali…

About the winner

Backed by Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP Movies, Chhatriwali sees one woman go on a mission. The mission is to educate people on safety that is needed during intercourse. She struggles but keeps at her goal of eliminating the taboos associated with the human reproduction system.

Accolades

Although Chhatriwali received mixed reviews, the film was lauded for its honest attempt at delivering a crucial message. The film offers humour, which doesn’t make it unwatchable. Most, however, praised Rakul’s performance in the movie. She is now recognized at the recently held OTTplay Awards 2023.

Know Rakul Preet Singh a little better

After working in the South Indian film industry (debut with Kannada, followed by Telugu and Tamil films), Rakul Preet Singh made her Bollywood debut with Yaariyan. Still switching between the industries, Rakul gained popularity with Ajay Devgn’s De De Pyaar De, which released in 2019.

In 2022, Rakul appeared in five movies. Starting with Attack, she featured in Ajay’s Runway 34, Akshay Kumar’s Cuttputlli, Ayushmann Khurrana’s Doctor G and her Aiyaary co-star Sidharth Malhotra’s Thank God (with Ajay).

Her first 2023 project was Chhatriwali. The film released directly on OTT, on Zee5. She was last seen in I Love You, streaming on Jio Cinema. The film stars Pavail Gulati as the male lead.

Heartfelt gratitude, straight from the winner's heart

Rakul Preet Singh was, of course, brimming with joy and gratitude and the same reflected in her speech.

"Thank you so much for this award. Chhatriwali is a very, very special film - one, because it spoke about an issue which is so important to be spoken about and made it into a conversation. And, second, like Anil (Kapoor) sir spoke about Satish (Kaushik) sir, this gave me an opportunity to work with him so Chhatriwali will always be very special," she said before thanking the director and the whole team.

Upcoming films/web series/project

Rakul was last seen in Meri Patni Ka Remake. The film is a Hindi movie. She is also a part of two Tamil films, Ayalaan and Indian 2. The latter is a popular franchise, featuring Kamal Haasan in the lead role.
