OTTplay Awards 2023: Kajol wins Best Debut (Female)—Series for The Trial

Kajol made her full-fledged web series debut earlier this year with The Trial on Disney+ Hotstar. The series is the Indian adaptation of the international series The Good Wife, and the actor's intense role pulled the viewers towards her performance. At the OTTplay Awards 2023, Kajol won Best Debut (Female) in Series for her role in The Trial. The actor plays the role of a lawyer named Noyonika Sengupta.

After being in the industry for over three decades, on winning the debut award, Kajol said, "I am not known for my speeches. So I will keep it short and sweet. That's probably the first debut award that I ever received in my life. But, thank you so much."

"OTT is an amazing, amazing platform. As an actor, I think, we are in a wonderfully fabulous time, just looking at all the fabulous actors, who came up on stage before me. All these amazing heartfelt speeches. Mine is as heartfelt when I say that I am very, very happy to be here. Thank you so much OTTplay for giving me the debut award and acknowledging all these wonderful talents in the room," she added. 

About The Trial:

In the series, when Noyonika Sengupta's (Kajol) family becomes the focus of a scandal, she will be put through the ringer. She goes back to becoming a lawyer and fighting for their rights, both in and out of the courts.

Interestingly, Kajol made her OTT debut with the Netflix film Tribhanga, which premiered in 2021. The actor played the part of an Odissi dancer in the Renuka Shahane-directed movie.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Kajol will next be seen in yet another OTT film, Do Patti, co-starring Kriti Sanon. The actor plays the role of a cop in the film, which is likely to be released next year.
