Alaya F has been honoured with the ‘Best Debut Female - Film’ title at the OTTplay Awards 2023. The second edition of the first pan-India OTT awards took place at a glitzy ceremony in Mumbai on October 29. Alaya won the award for her performance in director Shashanka Ghosh’s psychological thriller film Freddy, which also starred Kartik Aaryan.
Freddy’s plot and streaming platform
Streaming on Disney+ Hotstar, Freddy is the story of a socially awkward dentist in Mumbai, named Dr Freddy Ginwala (Kartik). Although he is a bit shy by nature, Freddy has tried to befriend women, only to get rejected by them. Alaya plays Kainaaz Cruz Irani in the film. She is the wife of Freddy’s friend Rustom, with whom he eventually falls in love. The movie’s screenplay is written by Parveez Shaikh.

Receiving the ‘Best Debut Female’ award, presented to her by…, Alaya said, “This is for my OTT debut. Freddy is a film that's very special to me. It almost did feel like my re-debut. I worked with a lot of wonderful people on it. Kartik, who was an incredible person to act with - so talented. Shanshanka sir, who always brought such fun and humour to our shoot everyday. I'm so happy to be getting this award.”
Alaya’s acting career so far
Daughter of actress Pooja Bedi, Alaya made her acting debut in 2020 with the Nitin Kakkar-directed comedy drama film, Jawaani Jaaneman, starring Saif Ali Khan and Tabu. Then, she starred opposite newcomer Karan Mehta in Anurag Kashyap’s musical romantic drama film Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat.
The actress was most recently seen in the supernatural horror film U-Turn, helmed by Arif Khan. Scripted by Parvez Sheikh and Radhika Anand, the movie also features Priyanshu Painyuli, Aashim Gulati, Manu Rishi and Rajesh Sharma in crucial roles. It’s streaming on ZEE5. Among Alaya’s upcoming projects include Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Ek Aur Ghazab Kahani and Sri.

The much-awaited OTTplay Awards 2023 unfolded in a glitzy ceremony at Taj Lands End in Bandra, Mumbai, on October 29. The star-studded event was attended by the who’s who of the entertainment world and the OTT space. Danube OTTplay Awards 2023 was co-presented by Dabur Chyawanprash and driven by Volkswagen, with Colors Infinity being the telecast partner.
