OTTplay Awards 2022: Shershaah and Jai Bhim become the best web original films in popular choice

Sidharth Malhotra’s Shershaah was tied with Suriya’s Jai Bhim at the OTTplay Awards 2022. Both the movies have won best web original films in popular choice. While Shershaah is a Hindi movie, Jai Bhim is a Tamil film and they both worked extremely well on Amazon Prime Video.

Karan Johar won the award but he wasn’t available to receive it. Thus, producer Apoorva Mehta accepted the award. He also informed that Karan was unwell and thus, he couldn’t make it to the awards.

Shershaah, starring Sidharth Malhotra in the lead role, was one of the most loved films on OTT in 2021. The movie proved pathbreaking for him. The film also featured Kiara Advani as the female lead and she received as much acclaim as him. Produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, the film was helmed by Vishnu Vardhan.

Jai Bhim, on the other hand, became one of the most loved films presented by Suriya. Produced by his wife Jyothika, the movie previously made controversy for selling the rights to the OTT platform but eventually, the movie went on to make history. Critics and audiences praised the Tamil film unanimously. Jai Bhim was even listed for the 94th Academy Awards.

Many films have been releasing directly on OTT since 2020, especially since the audiences could not get out of their homes because of COVID-19 and the subsequent lockdown.

OTTplay Awards and Conclave 2022 took place on September 10. The awards took place from 7.30 pm in Mumbai.
