The film based on the life story of S Hariharan, the founder of a child rehabilitation centre, features Asif Ali, Sunny Wayne, Shobana, and Indrajith Sukumaran in key roles

Otta, helmed by Oscar Award-winning sound designer, Resul Pookutty is all set to release in theatres. The film based on real-life incidents has Asif Ali, Arjun Ashokan, Indrajith Sukumaran, and Shobana in key roles. The story of Otta is based on the book, Runaway Children, written by S. Hariharan. Hariharan is running a rehabilitation centre called Samathol for the kids who run away from their homes.
He is also the co-producer of the film Otta, which depicts his life story. Resul, earlier in an interview with Onmanorama had mentioned meeting Hariharan at a function, where runaway children were handed back to their parents. He said he felt like knowing about Hariharan and was fascinated by his story.
Now recent reports suggest that the makers have planned a worldwide release for Otta on September 15. The teaser of the movie which will hit theatres along with Asif Ali's Kasargold is expected in August.
Otta grabbed attention as it marks the directorial debut of Resul Pookutty, who is also an Oscar awardee. He was given the Academy Award in 2009 for Best Sound Mixing for the film Slumdog Millionaire. The movie depicted the life of Jamal Malik, who reaches the popular game show, Slumdog Millionaire from the streets of Mumbai. Resul also won the 2009 BAFTA Award for Slumdog Millionaire and the 2010 National Film Award for his work in Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja.
Otta also gained attention due to the presence of veteran Malayalam actress Shobana in the film. Shobana who was one of the popular Malayalam actresses, was taking a break until she appeared in Varane Avashyamund in the year 2020.
Along with Shobana, Otta also features Devi, the daughter of another veteran Malayalam actress, Jalaja.
