OTT South releases of the week: Shaakuntalam, Soppana Sundari, Thiruvin Kural, and other movies on Netflix, Prime Video, Disney + Hotstar, Sun NXT

A slew of Tamil films which hit screens on the occasion of Tamil New Year (April 14) are currently streaming on OTT. Other films that are available on OTT include Samantha's Shaakuntalam, Jawanum Mullappoovum, to name a few.Check out the list of shows that are streaming on OTT.

Soppana Sundari

Soppana Sundari revolves around a woman named Agalya (Aishwarya Rajesh) from a lower-middle-class family, who wins a car in a raffle draw. Though she plans a bright future with her mother played by Deepa Shankar and speech-impaired sister (Lakshmipriya Chandramouli), things soon turn topsy turvy. The supporting cast includes Karunakaran, Sathish Krishnan, Redin Kingsley, Mime Gopi, Sunil Reddy and Sha Ra. The dark comedy is helmed by SG Charles.

Thiruvin Kural

This psychological thriller, directed by Harish Prabhu NS, has Arulnithi playing Thiru, a man with speech and hearing impairment. His father's life is in danger after an accident, and he has to protect him at all costs, despite his condition. The star cast includes Aathmika as the leading lady, Bharathiraja, Subatra Robert, Monekha Siva, Ashraf, AR Jeeva, Harish Somasundaram, Mahendran and Mullaiarasi.

Rudhran

The film, helmed by producer-turned-director Kathiresan, marks the return of Raghava Lawrence after a four-year hiatus. Rudhran is a happy-go-lucky guy, who comes from a wealthy family, has a lovely wife, and a bunch of friends. However, he loses everything he holds dear, and his once-happy demeanour turns into one of homicidal rage.

Yaathisai

Director Dharani Rasendran's maiden venture, Yaathisai, revolves around the nomadic tribe Eyinars, who are all set to take over the powerful and undefeated Pandiya king Ranadheeran (Shakthi Mithran) with Kodhi (Seyon) at the helm. The plot is set in the 7th century and is a compelling take on powerplay and the lust for authority. Interestingly, the film stars a bunch of newcomers.

Shaakuntalam

Director Gunasekhar has adapted Kalidasa's Abhignyana Shakuntalam, featuring Samantha as Shakuntala and Dev Mohan as King Dushyantha. The star cast includes Mohan Babu, Jisshu Sengupta, Madhoo, Gautami, Aditi Balan, Allu Arha and Ananya Nagalla. The film was a dampener at the box office.

Jawanum Mullappoovum

The film, directed by debutant Raghu Menon, stars Sshivada Nair, Sumesh Chandran and Rahul Madhav in the lead. The plot revolves around a school teacher and how her and her husband's life changes after unexpected circumstances.
