Robert Downey Jr. has a surprising backstory about the night he got nominated for the Oscars. The multiple award-winning star revealed that he was having a weird nightmare ahead of this year’s Academy Awards announcement. After sweeping the Golden Globes and BAFTAs, Robert looks set to continue his winning streak at the Oscars, where he is nominated in the Best Supporting Actor category for Oppenheimer. Other nominees in the category include Ryan Gosling (Barbie) and Mark Ruffalo (Poor Things).
Robert's Oscar 2024 nomination for his supporting role in the blockbuster biopic Oppenheimer is his third. While sharing an interesting backstory about the morning that the Oscar nominations were announced, the Iron Man star said that he woke up to the ecstatic news after a troubled nightmare. You’ll be surprised to know that it features two kittens!
“I had a nightmare that kittens (Willow and Winifred) had taken one of my Nicorette wrappers and I was going to get in trouble,” Robert Downey Jr. told People.
While speaking about the stressful morning, the Avengers star said that his wife Susan woke him up from his 'kitty' nightmare to the cheerful news, and they celebrated later.
In the same interview, Robert added that winning a prestigious Oscar nod is exciting, but the moments that he cherishes the most are the ones he spent with his co-stars, including Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, and Matt Damon. “The reward was the experience,” he said.
Apart from Robert, Ryan Gosling (Barbie), Mark Ruffalo (Poor Things), Sterling K. Brown (American Fiction), and Robert DeNiro (Killers of the Flower Moon) have also been nominated in the best supporting actor categories ahead of the March 10 Oscar awards.
Christopher Nolan’s biopic film Oppenheimer dominated this year’s Oscars with 13 nominations, including coveted titles like Best Film, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Director. The plot of the movie revolves around the rise and fall of the theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, aka ‘Father of the Atomic Bomb.’ It stars Cillian Murphy in the lead role.
