This year’s Academy Awards brought back the charm and energy that the previous pandemic ceremony was unable to, with the voice cast of Encanto presenting an electrifying performance of the film's song ‘We Don’t Talk About Bruno’ on stage. It's the first-ever live rendition of the song from the animated feature.
The performance ended up being a mash-up as Megan Thee Stallion, Becky G, and Luis Fonsi also joined the members and set the stage on fire soon after Encanto was announced as the Best Animated Feature winner.
“We're here to celebrate Oscars,” said the trio, this line being an amendment to the original track.
Megan Thee Stallion also added a new verse, “I ain't talking about Bruno, I'm talking about money”, and gave Dune actress Zendaya a shoutout.
‘We Don’t Talk About Bruno’ was snubbed from the race to Best Original Song and instead, Lin Manuel-Miranda-penned ‘Dos Oruguitas’ was nominated in that category. It’s competing against ‘Be Alive’ from King Richard; 'Down to Joy' from Belfast; 'No Time to Die' title track; and 'Somehow You Do' from Four Good Days.
However, the song has been a hit among listeners and had topped the Billboard charts in January this year.
The 94th Academy Awards opened with a grand singing and dancing act from Beyonce in a tennis court, all the way from Compton, Serena and Venus Williams’ hometown who are the subjects of King Richard.
