Beyonce opened the Oscar's ceremony with a rousing performance of her nominated track 'Be Alive' from the Will Smith-led biopic King Richard. The film's subjects, the dynamic Serena and Venus Williams introduced the singer from the awards stage.
Bey performed from the Williams sister's hometown Compton, in a tennis court, wearing a tennis-ball yellow outfit. In the background supporting her act were her troupe of back-up dancers, her daughter Blue Ivy Carter and musicians all dressed in the same hue.
In the midst of the performance, Beyonce gave a shoutout to Compton, "Tell 'em where we are! City of Compton."
This is the fourth time Beyonce has sang at the Oscars ceremony beginning with a live rendition of 'Learn to Be Lonely' from The Phantom of the Opera in 2005, a set of tracks from Dreamgirls with Jennifer Hudson, Anika Noni Rose, and Keith Robinson in 2007, and a movie musical tribute with Hugh Jackman in 2009.
This is also Queen Bey's return to an awards ceremony stage after a long hiatus of five years, with her last outing being the 2017 Grammys.
'Be Alive', which Beyonce co-wrote with Dixson is nominated for Best Song along with 'Dos Oruguitas' from Encanto; 'Down to Joy' from Belfast; 'No Time to Die' title track; and 'Somehow You Do' from Four Good Days.
The ceremony, hosted by Amy Schumer, Wanda Sykes and Regina Hall, is currently underway at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. A significant part of the night's winners have already been declared, while the acting awards are being announced.
Till then, here's a look at Bey's incredible song for the Oscars 2022:
