Academy Award winning actress Michelle Yeoh finally said ‘I do’, 19 years after saying ‘Yes’ to former Ferrari CEO Jean Todt’s proposal. The couple got married on July 27 in the presence of close friends and family. According to the official invite to their wedding, as shared by former F1 driver Felipe Massa, Michelle and Jean met in Shanghai on June 4, 2004 and only a month and a half later, on July 26, he popped the question, which she accepted. After 6992 days together, the couple tied the knot surrounded by family and friends in Geneva.
Michelle, 60, was earlier married to Hong Kong based business magnate Dickson Poon for three years, and has been with the now 77-year-old Jean since 2004. Jean confirmed the news of the wedding after Felipe’s social media post, tweeting, “Now that my other son @MassaFelipe19 has « discreetly » spread the good news, I can happily confirm the union with the Love of my life, Michelle.”
Jean currently serves as UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy for Road Safety, while Michelle is a goodwill ambassador for UN Development. The couple’s special day even warranted a first of sorts wedding announcement at the UN, with spokesman for the Secretary-General doing the needful. “A first at a UN briefing: a marriage announcement! A big congratulations to @undp Goodwill Ambassador Michelle Yeoh and @UN Road Safety Envoy @JeanTodt who finally tied the knot!” read the tweet, accompanied by a video of the announcement.
Michelle, who became the first woman of Asian origin to win an Academy Award earlier this year, had her Oscar statue giving her company during the wedding celebrations.
