Oppenheimer: Christopher Nolan's film takes a flying start.

Oppenheimer, the latest film by acclaimed director Christopher Nolan, has taken the box office by storm on its opening day. The film, which is based on the life of physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, the father of the atomic bomb, has earned over Rs 13.50 crore in India on its first day, as per trade portal Sacnilk. The film has also received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike.
The film stars Cillian Murphy as Oppenheimer, who leads the Manhattan Project, a secret endeavour to develop the first nuclear weapon during World War II. The film also features an ensemble cast of Robert Downey Jr, Florence Pugh, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Rami Malek and more in supporting roles. The film is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning biography 'American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J Robert Oppenheimer' by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin.
Oppenheimer has surpassed its box office rival Barbie, a live-action comedy based on the iconic doll, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. Barbie earned Rs 5 crore nett in India on its first day. While Barbie has received positive feedback for its witty, whimsical and empowering story, Oppenheimer has clearly emerged as the winner in terms of collections and popularity.
Oppenheimer has also performed well in the US and other international markets. According to The Independent, Oppenheimer is estimated to earn $110 million at the US box office during opening weekend. This would make it one of the highest-grossing films of the year and surpass Nolan's previous films such as Tenet and Dunkirk. Oppenheimer has also received a tremendous response from the audience in South Asian countries including India.
