Season 1:

Charles Haden-Savage (Steve Martin), a former TV personality; Oliver Putnam (Martin Short), a former theatrical producer; and Mabel (Selena Gomez), a young artist, create an unusual trio in Only Murders in the Building. They all share a passion for true crime podcasts. Following the death of their neighbour Tim Kono (Julian Cihi), they unite to create a podcast and investigate the murder. They face numerous suspects, learn about Mabel's history with Tim, and deal with surprising developments like a resident's role in the murder as they delve further into the mystery surrounding their posh Upper West Side apartment complex. The season's startling cliffhanger left viewers eagerly anticipating the next chapter.

Season 2:

In the second season of Only Murders in the Building, the trio becomes entangled in the murder of Bunny Folger (Jayne Houdyshell), the landlady of the Arconia. Mabel becomes the major suspect after discovering Bunny's lifeless body in her apartment. As the three friends dig into Bunny's past, they find out about her beloved parrot, Mrs. Gambolini, and a priceless picture. NYPD investigator Kreps (Michael Rapaport), who is actually Glitter Guy, provides leads that connect him to Cinda Canning's (Tina Fey) True Crime podcast. When the trio plans a killer reveal party, Poppy White (Adina Verson), Cinda's assistant, reveals herself as Bunny's killer, leading Mabel to believe that Cinda is framing her. Season 2 closes on a shocking note when Ben Glenroy (Paul Rudd), Oliver's play star, passes out onstage, paving the way for Season 3.

Season 3:

The third season of Only Murders in the Building opens with Oliver's Broadway musical in jeopardy due to the death of star actor Ben. Howard (Michael Cyril Creighton) and Oliver want to make it a musical in an effort to rescue it, but producer Donna (Linda Emond) is apprehensive about the budget, so Oliver has three days to persuade her. Charles and Mabel are investigating Ben's death, suspecting poisoning or strangling as the cause; they also speculate that the killer might have misplaced a handkerchief. The cast is unhappy, and the first rehearsal is a complete bust after Oliver says the musical would feature Loretta (Meryl Streep) as the lead. Mabel, along with videographer Tobert (Jesse Williams), investigates Ben's flat and finds video of him arguing with someone the evening before he passed away. Oliver begs Loretta to remain despite criticism from the ensemble; with her assistance, she wins over the producers and ensures the performance will continue. The revelation that Kimber (Ashley Park) misplaced her handkerchief makes Charles suspicious of her.
