Hours after Liam's demise, his former One Direction bandmate Zayn Malik penned a moving note. Zayn shared a picture with Liam and fondly remembered him as his 'brother'. Malik recalled that Liam was more sensible despite being younger than him.

The singer mentioned that he never thanked Liam enough for supporting him in tough times. Malik recalled how Payne had a positive outlook while he would miss home as a 17-year-old. 

A portion of his note further read, "I lost a brother when you left us and can't explain to you what I'd give to just give you a hug one last time and say goodbye to you properly and tell you that I loved and respected you dearly.I will cherish all the memories I have with youin my heart forever, there is no words that justify or explain how I feel right now other than beyond devastated. I hope that wherever you are right now you are good and are at peace you are. and you know how loved you are (sic)."

Liam Payne reportedly fell from a third-floor balcony of a hotel. He was found dead in the interior courtyard of the hotel in Palermo district. It has been reported that the preliminary autopsy report suggests Payne was 'intoxicated and on a cocktail of alcohol and drugs'. He apparently jumped in a state of 'semi or total unconsciousness'.
