One Day is going to be adapted into a 14-episode series by Netflix. Set to premier on Netflix on February 9, 2024, the series is going to be based on David Nicholl’s titular 2009 novel, which had previously been made into a classic film starring Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess in 2011.

The film, stars Leo Woodall as Dexter Mayhew, Ambika Mod as Emma Morley, Essie Davis as Alison, Tim McInnerny as Stephen, Amber Grappy as Tilly, Jonny Weldon as Ian, Joely Richardson as Helen, Toby Stephens as Lionel, and last but not the least, Eleanor Tomlinson in an unrevealed role. The film is directed by Molly Manners, Kate Hewitt, John Hardwick, and Luke Snelin.

The official synopsis of the new series reads, “One Day tells the story of Emma Morley and Dexter Mayhew who, on 15th July 1988, the night of their graduation, speak for the very first time. The next morning, they go their separate ways but where will they be on this one ordinary day the next year, and the year after that, and every year that follows? Each episode finds Dex and Em, one year older, on this one particular date, as they grow and change, move together and apart, experience joy and heartbreak.”

By breaking the traditional tempo-spatial restrictions, tracing one single day against the onrush of time for more than two decades creates a unique effect, both on humans and relationships. Though a trailer has not yet been dropped, the series promises a far deeper insight into the characters’ mindsets and their actions, highlighting the process of friends to lovers, when love becomes inevitable.
