It looks like Vijay's upcoming film with Venkat Prabhu, Thalapathy 68 might have Simran as one of the leading ladies. If the news is indeed true, it will mark the comeback of the iconic pair of the '90s. Here's a look at the few times the duo created magic on screen.
Nerukku Ner
Director Vasanth's Nerukku Ner had Vijay, Suriya, Simran and Kausalya in the lead and the film went on to become a commercial success. Nerukku Ner marked Suriya's and Simran's debut in cinema. Director Vasanth is said to have been impressed by the actress in the Hindi film, Tere Mere Sapne. Simran was paired with Suriya in Nerukku Ner, and the songs Manam Virumbudhey, Aval Varuvaala and Engengey went on to become chartbusters.
Once More
The romantic comedy, directed by SA Chandrasekhar, marked the maiden collaboration between Simran and Vijay as the lead pair. Once More also starred Nadigar Thilagam Sivaji Ganesan, Vijay's only film with the legendary actor. The film was a massive commercial success. The film marked Simran's maiden release in Tamil along with V.I.P, though Nerukku Ner was the first project she signed in Tamil.
Thulladha Manamum Thullum
Thulladha Manamum Thullum, directed by Ezhil, revolves around Kutty (Vijay), a kind-hearted man who is in love with Maheshwari, (Simran). The film received positive reviews and set the cash registers ringing at the box office. The success of the film established Simran as a top actress and she went on to sign Priyamaanavale and Udhaya with Vijay thereafter.
Priyamaanavale
The 2000 romantic drama, helmed by K Selva Bharathy, is a remake of 1996 Telugu film Pavitra Bandham, which starred Venkatesh and Soundarya. Vijay played the son of a rich industrialist, who does not believe in marriage. Later, he agrees to marry his father's assistant for one year in exchange for monetary support. Will they get happily ever after? The songs by SA Rajkumar were massive hits, especially Ennavo Ennavo, Enakkoru Snegithi, June July Maththil to name a few.
Youth
Though Simran didn't play the leading lady in the film, her mere appearance in the dance number Aal Thotta Boopathi Naanada along with Vijay was enough to set the screen on fire. The song sung by Shankar Mahadevan, went on to become a smashing chartbuster and Simran's moves were said to be one-of-a-kind.
Udhaya
Azhagam Perumal's Udhaya marked the last collaboration between Vijay and Simran after which Vijay went on to take the action route and Simran briefly announced retirement from films after marriage. The film marked AR Rahman's maiden album for Vijay and the song Udhaya Udhaya was considered a musical gem.
