The 66th annual celebration of the highly coveted Grammy Awards was held in Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena and witnessed some iconic wins throughout the glam event. Record Academy’s Grammy event on Sunday created unforgettable moments for several music artists, including Taylor Swift’s historic win for the fourth album of the year and Miley Cyrus's disbelief and overwhelming reaction to her first ever Grammy win. However, there were also artists who were robbed of the joy of taking home the prestigious and gilded gramophone, including Lana Del Rey, Olivia Rodrigo, and Jon Batiste, who left empty-handed with a void in their hearts despite multiple nods.
This year marked a remarkable presence of talent and wins at the Grammys 2024, with the witty host Trevor Noah returning for the fourth time in a row. John Batiste, who won the 2022 Grammy for the album of the year, lost this year’s honor to Taylor Swift, who created a historic win for her album Midnights. Several female artists dominated the coveted awards for their excellence in the music industry. Singer and songwriter Olivia Rodrigo may have left empty-handed, but she won hearts with her lively performance of pop rock ballad Vampire in a vibrant red dress. Fellow nominee Taylor Swift rooted for Rodrigo during her performance as she sang along enthusiastically.
Lana Del Ray, who was nominated five times in the top categories, was snubbed for a single win. While Boygenius and SZA did not leave empty-handed with three wins each, they significantly lost in multiple categories to fellow contenders, including SZA’s nomination for the Best Album and Record of the Year category. However, black artist SZA did not let the losses overcome her wins, including the best R&B song category for Snooze and Best Progressive R&B Album For 'SOS'. The acclaimed musician rocked the Grammy stage with her soulful performance.
Singing sensation Taylor Swift became the epitome of talent as she won the trophy four times for Best Album of the Year (Midnights) and 15 Grammys, including Best Pop Vocal Album. Another highlight was the guest appearance of Celine Dion to present the top honor album of the year amid her health concerns.
Miley Cyrus took home not one but two Grammys this year: Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance. Watch her iconic “I forgot my underwear speech as she accepts the honor."
Rapstar Jay-Z called out the Grammys for snubbing Beyonce''s top honors despite multiple wins in the past. He also emphasized the robbed-off feelings that artists experience when they go empty-handed.
India also created history after winning three Grammys this year. Zakir Hussain became the first Indian to win three Grammys at the February 4 event in the nominated categories of Best Global Music Performance (Pashto), Best Contemporary Instrumental Album (As We Speak), and Best Global Music Album (This Moment).
You can stream the event on Paramount Plus or on the official YouTube channel of Record Academy.
