Officer on Duty: Audiences like the gripping screenplay

Since it dropped on OTT, Officer on Duty has been receiving a lot of praise, especially from audiences watching the dubbed versions. Comments ranged from “Another superb thriller movie from malayalam industry.. Gripping screen play.... Must Watch for cinema lovers!!” to “Good one, but climax is just ok. Try madi, Olle thriller ede. Police acting mathra benki”, “Always wondering how can chettans make investigation thrillers so effortlessly”, “Without any expectation watched #OfficerOnDuty but the film turned out to be masterpiece in every aspect” and many more.

The film has Kunchacko Boban as a hot-headed police officer, whose ‘behaviour’ has landed him in trouble and even got him demoted from DySP rank to CI. When he receives a complaint about a man trying to pawn an imitation gold chain, his investigation leads to a series of gruesome crimes that are connected to a personal tragedy in his past. Although he is warned to drop the case, he doesn’t.

Joining Kunchacko Boban on the cast were Priya Mani, Jagadish, Vishakh Nair, Vaisakh Shankar, Vishnu G Varrier, Ramzan Muhammed, Leya Mammen, Aishwarya Raj, Amit Eapen, among others. Made at a budget of around Rs 12 crore, the film, written by National Award-winning writer Shahi Kabir, is reported to have made Rs 50 crore at the box office. Officer on duty is Shahi’s third as a writer, following Joseph and Nayattu. His directorial, Ela Veezha Poonchira, was, interestingly, based on a story by Nidhish G and Shaji Maarad. Shahi is reportedly working on his second directorial, Ronth, currently.
