Nyla Usha is set on essaying some strong roles in Malayalam films this year. After starring in Sharafudheen’s Priyan Ottathilanu, the actress has signed to play the female lead in debutant Sanal V Devan’s film Kunjammini’s Hospital, which also has Indrajith Sukumaran, Prakash Raj, Sarayu and Baburaj in pivotal roles.
The movie is touted to be a fun, fantasy film that is set against the backdrop of a hospital, as the title suggests. We now hear from a source that the movie will have Nyla in a double role. This is first time the actress is playing such a character.
In a recent interview with OTTplay, Abhayakumar K, who has co-scripted the film with Anil Kurian, told us that the movie will deal a lot of aspects that people associate with hospital with humour. “People associate hospitals with death, sickness and negative emotions, but we have tried to approach the film in a way that it brings a smile to your face,” said the scriptwriter, who had also written Priyan Ottathilanu that hit theatres last week.
The movie will also be set in different time periods and doesn’t have a conventional hero-heroine concept, the writer added. “All the characters including that of Harishree Ashokan, Mallika Sukumaran, Biju Sopanam and James Eliya have equal importance. Their backstories and how they come into each other’s lives form the plot,” he said. The movie is currently being shot in Irinjalakuda, Thrissur.
Nyla, meanwhile, will also be seen in director Joshiy’s crime drama Paappan, which has Suresh Gopi in the lead. This marks the actress’ second venture with the veteran filmmaker after Porinju Mariam Jose. In a recent interview, she clarified it’s just a cameo role. The movie, which is expected to hit theatres in July, also has Kaniha, Gokul Suresh, Asha Sharath and Neetu Pillai, who plays the female protagonist.
