Sony LIV is back in the news for its Telugu talk show, Nijam with Smita, hosted by musician, entrepreneur Smita. The sixth episode, to stream on the platform tomorrow, brings together two leading directors in Telugu cinema - Deva Katta and Sandeep Reddy Vanga, known for their popular films like Prasthanam, Republic, Vennela, Arjun Reddy and Kabir Singh.
In the promo of the show’s episode unveiled earlier this week, Deva Katta, who grew up in Chennai, shared that films like Ramgopal Varma’s Shiva, the works of Mani Ratnam, Bharati Raja and K Balachander hugely influenced him. Sandeep Reddy Vanga shares something similar about Gharana Mogudu, discussing the influence of the film’s climax on him.
Deva Katta further adds that the debate surrounding films having to be a torchbearer of the society, drive change is highly overrated. One of his recent releases, Republic, spoke of how the corruption within the system and political manipulation have a huge effect on the lives of citizens. Sandeep Reddy Vanga, who’s working on Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal, will next team up with Prabhas on a cop drama titled Spirit besides another project with Allu Arjun.
Chiranjeevi, Chandra Babu Naidu, Nani, Rana Daggubati, Sai Pallavi, Sudheer Babu and Pullela Gopichand were the other guests on the show across five episodes, throwing light on various experiences that inspired them to scale newer peaks in life. Radhika Sarathkumar, Supriya Yarlagadda, Swapna Dutt Chalasani, Pullela Gopichand, Sudheer Babu, Allari Naresh & Anil Ravipudi, Adivi Sesh and Major Bharath Reddy will appear in the show’s upcoming episodes.
Some of the other shows that Sony LIV released in Telugu in 2023 include 3Cs, Bad Trip. Their next is Kanyasulkam, a modern-day reinterpretation of the classic play written by Gurajada Apparao. Varsha Bollamma, Srinivas Avasarala, Murali Sharma and Anjali essay crucial roles in the show directed by Sesha Sindhu and has music by Shaktikanth Karthick.
