In just a couple of days, we will see Devi Vishwakumar taking her final steps in the halls of Sherman Oaks High. Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, who plays the leading role, will be seen bidding adieu to her high school and stepping into college life. Before we see what unfolds in the fourth season, let's take a look at how the third season of Never Have I Ever ended.
While Devi went to Ben's residence to utilise her "one free boink" card, Paxton almost dedicated his graduation speech to her.
While Season 3 focused on bolstering one's sense of self-worth and demolishing outgrown fantasies, the "will they or won't they?" interaction between Devi and her two suitors is still very much up in the air. After fans expressed concern over a love triangle, co-creator Lang Fisher reassured them that Season 4 is underway. If one is worried that this is it, the worrying will only become worse; have no fear. This applies to the full run of the series.
Fisher elaborated to Tudum that because it's senior year, it's moving on and growing up, so the new dreams the three of them create for themselves are very much a part of Season 4.
It's not just Devi who has "a lot on her plate" in this last season; as Fisher points out, everyone is dealing with issues that force them to question who they are. He thinks everything gets kind of tumbled upside down when they become seniors and Paxton goes off to college. As Fisher puts it, the structure you've seen for the first three seasons shifts, and therefore the love triangle can get reignited again.
After finally getting the chance to date Paxton in Season 3, Devi finally gets to fulfil a lifetime ambition of hers by enrolling at Princeton in Season 4. Because they've been these annoying A-students for so long, Fisher adds, she and Ben are both laser-focused on these elite schools that they want to go to. For college admissions, there's a lot of figuring out what those things mean in terms of who they are and what they're worth.
Maitreyi, however, believes that she was merely fulfilling her own fantasy when she portrayed Devi's character in Season 4. The actor thinks all her hopes and dreams that she would want for good old Devi have come true. If her character said what she wanted, it would sound like she was telling what actually happened.
Apart from Maitreyi, Never Have I Ever also stars Poorna Jagannathan, Richa Moorjani, Darren Barnet, Jaren Lewison, John McEnroe (voiceover), Ramona Young, and Lee Rodriguez.
