Netflix is honouring the legacy of the late Chadwick Boseman in its new special titled Chadwick Boseman: Portrait of an Artist, which dropped on the OTT platform on April 18 and will  remain available for the next 30 days.

The 21-minute-long tribute features interviews from Hollywood actors who had the privilege of working with Boseman.

"People call me an actor, I wouldn't necessarily call myself an actor. I would call myself an artiste," says the late actor in the background of the opening sequence of the trailer to Chadwick Boseman: Portrait of an Artist.

Boseman's co-stars from Ma Rainey's Black Bottom - Viola Davis, Glynn Turman and Taylour Paige - are among those who are sharing their experiences of working with the actor in the special.

Recalling her time with Boseman on the set of Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, Davis said, "You know, you have to step up when you are in his presence. He's looking at you, at your craft, and he's really hyper-focused on the process. That is Chad." Boseman's performance in the film has bagged him a posthumous Academy Award nomination in the Best Actor category.

The Netflix special also includes snippets from Da 5 Bloods director Spike Lee and Denzel Washington, who sponsored Boseman's year abroad at the Oxford Mid-Summer Program of the British American Drama Academy in England.

Boseman, who died in August 2020 following a four-year battle with colon cancer, emerged as one of Marvel’s favourite superheroes in Black Panther. Playing the role of King T’Challa, Boseman won the hearts of millions of fans as the first black actor to headline a MCU film. Though it was Black Panther that propelled Boseman to fame, his legacy includes memorable performances in Marshall, Da 5 Bloods, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and more.
