Sharing the poster on their social media account, Netflix India wrote: "A powerful man with secrets to hide. A journalist’s fight to uncover the truth ✍️

Maharaj is coming soon only on Netflix!"

Directed by Hitchki fame Siddharth P Malhotra, the film also stars Sharvari Wagh, Jaideep Ahlawat, and Shalini Pandey.

Based on true events, Maharaj is a David vs Goliath story which is set in the 1800s. It is about a regular man who is a journalist by profession, who becomes a prominent figure in society and is hailed by many as a messiah for the masses. The fearless reporter takes up his pen to unveil a string of events that rock society's core.

The historical drama is a tribute to the acts of goodness, unwavering pursuit of the truth, and selfless service to others. It shows how a single person's will to bring about positive change can vanquish all evil and hold the powerful answerable.

On September 15, 2023, Netflix and YRF announced the project on their social media accounts. They wrote: "Netflix and Yash Raj Films join forces to bring a new era of blockbusters! Coming soon!"

Speaking about the project, director Siddharth P. Malhotra said that the film will show the resilience of the human spirit and how a regular man could take the courage and help people around him, helping society, as a result. He said, "Get set to be mesmerized by a world of horse-drawn carriages, old-school printing presses, kaccha roads, beautiful traditions and a man’s willpower to do good. We are beyond thrilled to present Maharaj that is set to stream exclusively on Netflix, the world’s biggest streaming platform. A story like this will resonate to audiences globally and Netflix is the perfect platform to take our story to the world.”
