Variety Magazine reports that Netflix is discussing the production of Troll 2 with director Roar Uthaug. Uthaug, a Norwegian filmmaker, is known for directing the survival film, The Wave, and the film adaptation of the game Tomb Raider starring Alicia Vikander. The scriptwriter of Troll, Espen Aukan, is writing the sequel, which is being produced by Espen Horn and Kristian Strand Sinkerud at Motion Blur. After the first film hinted at a potential sequel, the producers were asked earlier about the possibility of a second film. "This has been a great collaboration with Roar and Netflix, and we'd love to do it again," said Espen Horn in an interview with What's Special on Netflix. Strand also expressed their hopes to make a sequel, and maybe even two, but emphasized that the decision ultimately depends on the audience's reception to Troll.
Troll premiered on Netflix in December 2022 and broke multiple records by ranking in Netflix's Top 10 list in 93 countries including Norway, US and UK.
