2023 has been a memorable year for Netflix, given how it has cemented its presence among Telugu film viewers across the globe with its aggressive acquisitions. Some of the biggest releases - Waltair Veerayya, Kushi, Bholaa Shankar, Miss Shetty Mr Polishetty, Ramabanam, Bro, Dasara, SIR, MAD and Dhamaka - were acquired by the streaming giant and premiered this year, registering impressive viewership.
Earlier this week, Netflix’s CEO Ted Sarandos arrived in Hyderabad and is catching up with the leading names in Telugu cinema. If the streaming giant head bonded with the likes Chiranjeevi, Ram Charan, Sai Dharam Tej, Panja Vaisshnav Tej, he went onto meet team Devara over lunch today. Jr NTR, Kalyan Ram, director Koratala Siva and other crew met Ted Sarandos, discussing movies, OTTs and more.
Expressing his happiness over the interaction, Jr NTR tweeted, “It was such a pleasure hosting you and your team for lunch Ted Sarandos. Enjoyed our conversation and the afternoon spent together indulging in our love for movies and food.” Jr NTR is currently filming for the two-part action franchise Devara and will team up with Hrithik Roshan for War 2, to be directed by Ayan Mukherjee.
Reports emerged a few weeks ago that Netflix has clinched the post-theatrical streaming rights of Devara for a record price. Apart from Jr NTR, the film, produced by Nandamuri Kalyan Ram’s home banner NTR Arts, also stars Janhvi Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Prakash Raj and others in key roles. Kalyan Ram’s action thriller Amigos also premiered on Netflix after its theatrical run.
One of the crucial reasons behind RRR’s global popularity was its presence on Netflix. The leading platform has also bagged multiple biggies that have released in recent weeks and upcoming films including Hi Nanna, Aadikeshava, Salaar and Guntur Kaaram. The streamer is also bringing together Venkatesh and Rana Daggubati for the second season of Rana Naidu.
