Neru vs Dunki Kerala box office – Shah Rukh Khan’s film fails to beat Mohanlal’s courtroom drama

Neru, the courtroom drama starring Mohanlal, and Dunki, the comedy drama that stars Shah Rukh Khan in the lead role, hit the theatres yesterday (December 21, 2023). The Jeethu Joseph directorial, which hit the theatres without a massive pre-release hype, has been receiving rave reviews from the audiences and critics. The movie also made an excellent opening at the box office. The Rajkumar Hirani directorial, however, has opened up mixed reviews. And when it comes to the Kerala box office, Dunki has failed to beat Neru with its Day 1 collections in the state.

Neru vs Dunki at Kerala box office

As per the latest updates from the trade experts, Mohanlal starrer Neru has made a great opening at the worldwide box office, by making a total collection of Rs. 3 Crore. When it comes to the Kerala box office, Jeethu Joseph’s courtroom drama has minted Rs. 2.75 Crores. Thus, Neru has also made the best opening collection for a Mohanlal-starrer, in 2023.

Dunki, however, has made a poor opening at the Kerala box office, by minting a gross collection of just Rs. 58 Lakhs. The lack of a good pre-release hype and mixed reviews have clearly affected the performance of Shah Rukh Khan starrer in the state. The movie has very less chances to witness a rise in box office collection over the weekend, as Mohanlal’s Neru is clearly dominating the Kerala box office now.

Neru: Cast and crew

Mohanlal plays the role of Adv. Vijayamohan in the movie, which stars Anaswara Rajan in a pivotal role. Priya Mani, Siddique, Jagadish, and KB Ganesh Kumar, Sree Dhanya, Kalesh Ramanand, Nandu, Santhi Maya Devi, Krishna Prabha, Aditi Ravi, and others in pivotal roles.  The Mohanlal starrer, which is bankrolled by Antony Perumbavoor under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas, is slated to have its OTT release by the beginning of 2024, on Disney+ Hotstar.

About Dunki

The comedy-drama marked Shah Rukh Khan’s first onscreen collaboration with hitmaker Rajkumar Hirani. Vicky Kaushal made a special appearance in Dunki, which revolves around illegal immigration in Punjab. Taapsee Pannu appears as the female lead in the movie, which features a stellar star cast including Boman Irani, Vikram Kochhar, Anil Grover, and others in pivotal roles. Dunki is slated to stream on Jio Cinema after its theatrical run.
