Neru, the courtroom drama which hit the theatres on December 21, 2023, has emerged as the surprise box office hit of the season. The Mohanlal-starrer, which is helmed by Jeethu Joseph, was released without a massive pre-release hype. However, the excellent reviews and the word-of-mouth publicity have clearly helped the project, which even succeeded in dethroning biggies like Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki and Prabhas’ Salaar at the Kerala box office.
As Neru completed its first week at the worldwide box office, the Mohanlal-starrer, which was made with a moderate budget, has emerged as a blockbuster. The Jeethu Joseph directorial marked the superstar’s comeback to the success track after a long period of duds.
Neru crosses Rs 25 crore-mark at the box office
As per the latest reports from the trade experts, Neru has made a total gross collection of over Rs 25 crore at the worldwide box office, within the first week of its release. The initial reports suggest that the Mohanlal-starrer has collected over Rs 17 crore from the Kerala box office alone within the first 7 days of its release. The film has been performing exceedingly well at the Rest of India and Overseas box office as well, collecting over Rs 7 crore in total.
Will Neru enter the Rs 50-crore club in another week?
Mohanlal’s courtroom drama has all the chances of entering the Rs 50-crore club of Malayalam cinema. The extraordinary audience rush, and the increasing rate of advance bookings suggest that Neru might witness an even bigger increase in its box office collection on its second weekend of release, as well.

Mohanlal is playing the role of advocate Vijayamohan in the movie, while Anaswara Rajan played the role of Sara, a blind sculptor. Priyamani, Siddique, Jagadish, KB Ganesh Kumar, Sree Dhanya, Kalesh Ramanand, Nandu, Santhi Mayadevi, Krishna Prabha, Aditi Ravi, and others appeared in pivotal roles. The project is jointly penned by director Jeethu Joseph and Santhi Mayadevi. Satheesh Kurup is the director of photography. The Mohanlal-starrer, which is bankrolled by Antony Perumbavoor under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas, is slated to have its OTT release in January 2024 on Disney+ Hotstar.
