All the lull that preceded before the festival of Eid at the Malayalam box office is sure to be washed away by the deluge of releases this week in the industry. From multi-starrers of Tovino Thomas, Soubin Shahir, Rima Kallingal and Nikhil Vimal to those with Basil Joseph and Lukman Avaran in the lead, the week of Eid promises to be a festive treat for the Malayali audience.
In theatres alone, four big releases are lined up including Aashiq Abu’s Neelavelicham, Irshad Parari’s Ayalvaashi and Muhashin’s Kadina Kadoramee Andakadaham. Another highlight is that it’s also a battle of friends during the festive season in theatres. Here’s the list of movies for you to choose from if you are yet to decide which film to catch this weekend:
Neelavelicham

The reimagining of A Vincent’s 1964 movie Bhargavi Nilayam has Tovino Thomas essaying the role of writer who stays at a house that is believed to be haunted by a vengeful spirit of a woman who had ended her life after being betrayed in love. The movie, helmed by Aashiq Abu, also has Roshan Mathew, Rima Kallingal and Shine Tom Chacko in the lead.
Ayalvaashi

Debutant filmmaker Irshad Parari’s feel-good entertainer revolves around two neighbours – who are of the same group – quarrelling with each other after something goes wrong. The multi-starrer, which has Soubin Shahir, Binu Pappu, Gokulan, Nikhila Vimal, Naslen and Lijomol Jose in the lead, is touted to be a fun movie that will once again explore the ego clash between two individuals in a rural setting.
Kadina Kadoramee Andakaham

Set during the pandemic lockdown, debutant filmmaker Muhashin’s movie explores the struggles faced by its protagonist when all his plans go for a toss due to the COVID-induced restrictions. How he faces immense pressure and still tries to forge ahead, form the plot of the film, which has Basil Joseph, Swati Das Prabhu, Indrans, Jaffer Idukki and Fara Shibla in pivotal roles.
Sulaikha Manzil

Helmed by Bheemante Vazhi and Thamaasha director Ashraf Hamza, Sulaikha Manzil revolves around the emotions within a family as they gear up for a wedding. Lukman Avaran, Anarkali Marikar, Ganapathy, Adhri Joe and Chemban Vinod Jose star in this feel-good film that spans from the eve of the wedding till the function ends.

Vellaripattanam
Release platform: Amazon Prime Video
Manju Warrier and Soubin Shahir play ambitious siblings who are always at loggerheads. How the duo struggle to find a seat in the local elections and unite to take their rivals down form the plot of this political satire, which is helmed by debutant Mahesh Vettiyar. The movie also has Salim Kumar, Shabareesh Varma, Veena Nair and Krishna Sankar.
