Nayeem Diaries, based on former naxalite and feared criminal Mohammed Nayeemuddin, one of the most controversial figures in the political history of Telugu states - through his life and even after his death - released in several theatres across Telugu states today. The film stars Vasishta Krishna, Yagna Shetty and Samyuktha Hornad in key roles and is directed by Daamu Balaji.
The biopic, which opened to mixed reviews, has now landed in a controversy with the family of a late female naxal sympathise taking objection to her portrayal. An official statement released by the makers has assured the family now that the 'objectionable' scenes would be removed from the film with immediate effect.
"It has come to our notice that the family of a former female naxal sympathiser isn't happy with the portrayal of her fictionalised character in Nayeem Diaries, the Telugu film that hit theatres today. We are sorry for hurting their sentiments and agree to remove the concerned sequences from the film immediately. We are halting the screening of the film across all theatres and removing the scens, dialogues at the earliest," the producer C I Varada Rajulu and director Daamu Balaji shared in a statement addressed to the media.
The story tells how Nayeem was drawn to the naxalite movement, ended up killing a DIG in broad daylight in Hyderabad and landed in jail. Differences crop up among Nayeem and his naxal in-mates in the prison. An indifferent response to an issue involving Nayeem's sister Zareena leaves Nayeem distraught. Gradually, he turns a covert for the police force to escape his jail term and plays a crucial role in ending the Naxalite movement in the Telangana region. However, his emergence as a land mafia kingpin threatens those in power, owing to which Nayeem meets his end in the hands of cops.
The film is also slated to release in Kannada as Gangster shortly.
