Navarasa, the ambitious nine-film anthology produced by Mani Ratnam and Jayendra, brings together some of the biggest directors, actors and technicians in Tamil cinema. It’s set to release on August 6 on Netflix. The release date announcement video of the anthology was dropped on July 9. The black and white visuals showed a variety of close up shots of the cast in various expressions. The two-minute trailer of the anthology released today and it introduces us to the superb cast.

We first see Suriya and Prayaga Martin when they first meet before the trailer swiftly moves to the other characters. Though you can’t make out their stories, there are intriguing shots that give us hints. Bobby Simha, Atharvaa, and Gautham Vasudev Menon seem to be soldiers in the Sri Lankan Civil war (in the short directed by Karthik Subbaraj), there’s an intriguing part with Revathi and Vijay Sethupathi where he expresses a conundrum with his hilarious deadpan dialogue delivery, and Arvind Swami appears to be trying to give himself the shock treatment, Prakash Raj asks someone if he thought of the family of the man he killed.

Gautham Vasudev Menon (Vinnaithandi Varuvaaya), Bejoy Nambiar (Shaitan, Wazir), Karthik Subbaraj (Petta, Jigarthanda), Sarjun KM, Priyadarshan, Vasanth, Karthick Naren (Dhuruvangal Pathinaru), Rathindra Prasad and Arvind Swami are directors who are a part of the project.

Each film is expected  to represent an emotion: love, laughter, sorrow, anger, courage, fear, disgust, wonder and peace. Navarasa features Revathy, Parvathy, Aishwarya Rajesh, Poorna and Riythvika, Suriya, Arvind Swami, Vijay Sethupathi, Prakash Raj, Siddharth, Atharvaa, Gautham Karthik and Ashok Selvan.

Music directors AR Rahman, D Imman, Ghibran, Govind Vasantha, Justin Prabhakaran, Vishal Bharadwaj , Sundaramurthy KS,  Aruldev and Ron Ethan Yohann and cinematographers PC Sreeram, Santosh Sivan, Sudarshan Srinivasan, Sathyan Sooryan, Abinandhan Ramanujam, Shreyaas Krishna, Harshvir Oberai, Sujith Sarang, V. Babu and Viraj Singh are part of the project.

This is  Netflix’s second anthology in the Tamil industry after Paava Kadhaigal (Sin Stories) which united filmmakers such as Gautham Vasudev Menon, Sudha Kongara, Vetrimaaran and Vignesh Shivan.
