Nasir, which has Koumarane Valavane playing the lead, is finally gearing up for its digital release. The movie which was released in 2020 has been directed by Arun Karthick. The film was in the news multiple times for the reception it garnered at various film festivals across the world, and went on to bag many awards as well, including NETPAC Award for the best Asian production at the International Film Festival of Rotterdam.
What's Nasir about?
The movie touches upon the life of a middle-class Muslim man who lives in Coimbatore. The unfair treatment he faces from the society from another religious group forms the crux of the story.
The slew of unexpected incidents which happen later is what the rest of the film's story is about. Though Nasir received much recognition from festivals, it never got released in theatres. Filmmaker Arun had shifted his base to a different place to learn the behaviour of people and their lives to begin pre-production of the movie.
When and where to watch Nasir online?
The movie is dropping on SonyLIV on May 6. The social media handle of the OTT platform tweeted, "Get ready to see Arun Karthick's Nasir which won multiple international awards for its greatest craftsmanship. Streaming on May 6th only on SonyLIV. #NasirOnSonyLIV (sic)."
Saumyananda Sahi has cranked the camera for the project which has editing by Arghya Basu. According to Arun, Nasir is a reflection of the time in which we are living today. It is based on a short story titled A Clerk's Story which was written in 1998.
It is also inspired by a few real-life events. Arun had earlier said that he himself had witnessed the atrocities organized by right-wing extremists in his native place Coimbatore. It is this incident which inspired him to come up with the movie with the help of the short story.
