We also show the usage of MDMA in the movie and that’s how it lends itself to the stoner genre. However, the story doesn’t take the dark route that most films do with substance abuse.”
Apart from Irshad, the movie has newcomers Meera Madhu, Suha, Gayathri Shankar, Nora Johan and Nandana Sahadevan as part of the cast. The filmmaker said it was deliberate from his part of cast more female actors in the film as usually movies dealing with drugs have a male-dominant cast.
The film was initially scheduled to hit theatres in November, but was pushed due to the lack of theatres to screen the movie. Nalla Samayam will now release on December 30. The movie will clash with Unni Mukundan’s family entertainer Malikappuram, which is set against the backdrop of Sabarimala pilgrimage, and Soubin Shahir’s Djinn, which revolves around a man who suffers a mental affliction due to the stress in his life. Niranj Maniyanpilla Raju’s Kakkipada, which also has Sujith Shankar, is also set to hit theatres on December 30.
Meanwhile, Omar Lulu was also set to team up with Babu Antony for an action-thriller titled Power Star. They have been put on hold as it requires a bigger budget to go on floors, the filmmaker had revealed.
