Nagarjuna Akkineni joins D51, Dhanush’s political thriller with Sekhar Kammula

Dhanush and renowned Telugu director Sekhar Kammula confirmed their collaboration for a pan-Indian film a couple of years ago. Tentatively titled D51, the political thriller is produced by Suniel Narang and Puskur Ram Mohan Rao under Sree Venkateswara Cinemas and Amigos Creations. After wrapping the scripting work and pre-production work, the film is set to go on floors shortly.

The makers recently announced Rashmika Mandanna as the female lead of the prestigious project. While Dhanush finished shooting for Captain Miller and began work on his second directorial - D50, he is expected to begin filming for Sekhar Kammula’s film soon. An exciting update about the ‘latest addition’ to the project was confirmed today.

'King' on board

It’s official that Nagarjuna Akkineni has joined D51. Sharing the news on his birthday, the banner wrote, “We needed a powerhouse for our pan-Indian project with Dhanush and Sekhar Kammula and who better than our very own ‘King'. WISHING #KingNagarjuna A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY! We are extremely excited to work with you once again! Can't wait to get this show on the road!”

The film will feature several other big names and a formal announcement about it will be shared by the team soon. Sonali Narang is presenting the thriller. Reports suggest AR Rahman is in talks to compose the music score. The banner had also produced another film with Sekhar Kammula earlier - Love Story, a runaway success in 2021, starring Naga Chaitanya, Sai Pallavi.

Nagarjuna's enthusiasm for multi-starrers

Nagarjuna has never shied away from multi-starrers in his career - Seetha Rama Raju, Adhipathi, Krishnarjuna, Oopiri, Devadasu, Ninne Premistha are fine examples to suggest his enthusiasm to associate with his contemporaries and actors of other generations. Given Dhanush and Nagarjuna’s appeal in multiple markets, one can’t wait to see what team D51 has to offer us.
