A journey of four years, that is what the upcoming Kannada film Murphy is for director Pradeep Varma and the leading man, Prabhu Mundkur, which will finally culminate with the release on October 18. Initially earmarked for a September 27 theatrical outing, the film was pushed ahead by a few weeks and is now headed to theatres. Earlier today, 9 of Kannada cinema’s new bunch of heroines, including Amrutha Iyengar, Dhanya Ramkumar, Ankita Amar, among others, joined the team of Murphy to celebrate the trailer launch.
Much like the earlier teaser, the trailer does not shed much light on the plot, but hints at conflicts between the central characters and the importance of an old Murphy radio to the tale. Going by Prabhu’s distinctive looks, it would be safe to assume that he plays two characters in the film – presumably father and son – although their relationship, or rather, the lack of it appears to be central to the plot. The film is said to have a fantasy element and time travel is alluded to. Could that be the domino effect mentioned in the teaser?
Speaking at the trailer launch, Prabhu, who has been living and breathing Murphy for the past four years, summed it up saying, “Imagine for a moment - a person close to your heart, who is not with you anymore, calls you on your phone and addresses you in the way he/she would normally. The emotions surging through you in this moment is what Murphy will be.”
Calling Murphy a movie that audiences will love for the emotions at play, Prabhu is hopeful that the tale touches audiences’ hearts. Murphy, which also stars Roshni Prakash, Ila Veermala, Dattanna, Ashwin Rao Pallakki, Mahantesh Hiremath, Rramprasadd Banavara, BSP Varma, Master Dhawan, among others, credits its story and screenplay to the director and leading man.
Music plays a major part in Murphy, for which the team enlisted Arjun Janya, Sylvester Pradeep, Rajat Hegde and Keerthan Holla for the songs. Sylvester has also contributed the background score, which, going by the teaser and trailer, is also a major highlight.
