The wait is finally over! After its television premiere on Star Gold, Munjya has finally started streaming on Disney+ Hotstar. The blockbuster horror comedy has followed the suit of Kabir Khan's 2021 film 83, starring Ranveer Singh in the lead role, which also premiered on TV first before its OTT debut on Netflix and Disney+ Hotstar. Munjya has been one of the most-loved films of 2024, which belongs to the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe. The film arrived on OTT just in time for Stree 2, which is unstoppable at the box office even after 10 days of its theatrical release.
Aditya Sarpotdar's 2024 comedy-horror film Munjya features Sharvari, Abhay Verma, Sathyaraj, and Mona Singh among its stars. Amar Kaushik and Dinesh Vijan of Maddock Films produced the fourth instalment of the Maddock Supernatural Universe, which is based on Indian mythology and folklore.
In the film, Bittu (Abhay Verma) uncovers the wrath of an enraged ghost at Chetukwadi. Munjya, now reawakened and ready to tie the knot, follows closely after. The terrifying journey starts now!
Munjya opened in theatres worldwide on June 7, 2024, to a resounding reception from critics. The film became the sixth highest-grossing Hindi film of 2024 after unexpectedly becoming a smash, earning ₹132 crore globally despite only spending ₹30 crore on its production.
In expressing his joy, Sarpotdar spoke about the OTT release of Munjya to Filmibeat, stating that he is very excited to see how people are going to react and how the film will reach a bigger audience now after its OTT premiere. Despite its ambitious premise and unique 3D-CGI main character, Munjya featured a small cast and garnered positive reviews at the box office. These films are aimed at families, who make up most of Munjya's theatrical audience. The filmmaker has no doubt that even in the comfort of one's own home, members of all ages may enjoy viewing Munjya side by side.
