Mr. And Mrs. Smith (2005) will premiere on February 2, 2024, on Prime, with Donald Glover and Maya Erskine leading the series. The Prime Original had initially faced roadblock, due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes. Post resolution, the series resumed its course and promised a stunning recourse to the original plot.
Unlike the original film, the latest series also stars Donald Glover and Maya Erskine in the titular roles. The film diverts from its OG storyline, featuring two very ordinary individuals, who join a top-class spy agency and are hired to be in an arranged marriage with one another. How they go about that marriage, with the ups and downs of living with a person depends upon the secretive duo.
The narrative takes a unique turn, pairing two strangers against one another, who have not experienced either of the highs and lows of relationships or being a spy. The new narrative has Glover as the co-creator and executive producer, along with Francesca Sloane. New Regency Production’s Yariv Milchan and Michael Schaefer are also executively producing the show.
In the series, two single strangers are hired to work separately at a reputed espionage agency and are required to function as Mr. And Mrs. John and Jane Smith on the show. But wealth, travelling the world, and a nice brownstone home in New York City has made it difficult for the two new Smiths to tolerate each other in their new, sanctified yet legalized marriage.
The Titular star, Donald Grover has revealed in a latest interview to Entertainment Weekly, that the series will not only focus on the capabilities of spies but will show something rarer. The emergence and development of spies, which are not selfish or cutthroat, is a refreshing, humane touch, that shows a couple of spies learning to be their job descriptions while being human.
