Tamil cinema, which had witnessed its own ups and downs this year, is gearing up for a new year which will witness releases of some most expected films like Coolie, Thug Life, Vidaamuyarchi and Thalapathy 69. Viduthalai Part 2 – ZEE5
Viduthalai: Part 2, which released in theatres on December 20, will stream on ZEE5 sometime in January 2025. The film is helmed by Vetrimaaran, and stars Soori, Vijay Sethupathi, Manju Warrier, Rajiv Menon and others. Viduthalai Part 2 is the sequel to Vetrimaaran’s period action drama, Viduthalai: Part 1. The film revolves around a newly-recruited cop who captures the leader of the people’s movement. As the latter tells his tale, truths about his origins and the cause he fights for come to the fore.
Miss You - Prime Video
Miss You is a romantic drama starring actors Siddharth and Ashika Ranganath in the lead roles. The film revolves around an aspiring filmmaker who falls in love with an independent woman, with whom he once shared a past. Helmed by Rajasekhar, Miss You will begin streaming on Prime Video in a few weeks. Actors Karunakaran, Bala Saravanan, and Lollu Sabha Maran, are part of the cast.
Soodhu Kavvum 2 – TBD
Soodhu Kavvum 2 or Soodhu Kavvum II: Naadum Naatu Makkalum is the sequel to the 2013 film Soodhu Kavvum. With an ensemble star cast including Shiva, Karunakaran, Harisha, Radha Ravi, Karunakaran, MS Bhaskar, Ramesh Thilak and Yog Japee, among others, it is directed by SJ Arjun. The upcoming film takes characters from the 2013 movie and revolves around a kidnapping gang who uses ethical and humane ways to abduct people for ransom.
Thiru Manickam - ZEE5
Thiru Manickam is an upcoming Tamil film starring Samuthirakani. Directed by Nanda Periyasamy, the film also features Ananya, Bharathiraja, Thambi Ramaiah, Karunakaran, Chaams, Vadivukarasi, and Ilavarasu. Touted to be a family drama, the film revolves around the titular protagonist and a certain incident that causes trouble to his family. The music is scored by Vishal Chandrasekar.
The Smile Man – Aha
The Smile Man is an upcoming Tamil film which marks the 150th outing of veteran actor Sarathkumar. The actor plays a cop in the film who is suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and has to solve a case as his memories begin to fade away. Helmed by Syam and Praveen, others part of the cast are Sri Kumar, Sijaarose, Ineya, George Maryan, Rajkumar, Kumar Natarajan, Baby Azhiya, and others.
