Sharafudheen and Aishwarya Lekshmi pitched in for the Malayalam horror comedy with Hello Mummy in 2024 which saw the likes of Stree 2 and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 bringing the thrills and chills in Bollywood. The film revolves around a young couple with the man proposing marriage to his lady love but realises that he first needs to get the approval of her mother. Boney is confident of achieving this until he realises that the mother passed away long ago. Directed by Vaishakh Elans, the film was released in theatres on November 21, 2024, and is expected to land on OTT next month but the platform and streaming date is yet to be announced.
After the Mammootty-starrer Turbo and Kondal, Kannada star Raj B Shetty marked his third outing in Malayalam with Rudhiram, which also starred Aparna Balamurali. The film revolves around Dr Mathew Rosy (Raj B Shetty), who is much liked by the people of his village. But not everything is what it seems to be in the psychological thriller. The movie did not make much of an impression when it was released in theatres on December 13, 2024, and it remains to be seen if Rudhiram will win over the audience upon its OTT debut. The makers are yet to officially announce the platform and streaming date.
Tovino Thomas ensured that Malayalam cinema kicked off 2025 on a good note with his Identity. The makers mounted the ambitious project on a grand scale, with the sky truly being the limit. Trisha and Vinay Rai, both of whom have impressive track records in Tamil cinema, too joined hands with Tovino and the director duo of Akhil Paul and Anas Khan for Identity. The film released on January 2, 2025, and had a decent run at the box office. The Malayalam film will be released in Telugu on January 24. The film follows a sketch expert Haran, who helps the police identify the culprit in a murder case which has an eyewitness. The movie is likely to land on OTT next month, though the platform and release date are yet to be announced.

Unni Mukundan unleashed his brutal avatar on screen with Marco, which emerged as the most violent film from Malayalam. With its blood-spurting scenes, the A-rated movie managed to both shock and impress the viewers. The Malayalam movie created an impression in various other parts of the country too and its OTT debut is much-awaited. Though earlier reports claimed that the movie would land on Netflix, the Marco producer Shareef Muhammed had refuted the speculations. However, no official update on the platform and release date has been given since.
Suraj Venjaramoodu ventured into production with ED: Extra Decent. He also played the lead role in the dark comedy, which revolves around Binu who loses his memory. But as the hospital attempts to help him remember his past, his parents, sister and brother-in-law are a worried lot. Despite featuring the likes of Grace Antony, Shyam Mohan of Premalu fame, Sudheer Karamana and Vinayaprasad, the film failed to leave an impression. However, that could also be because it was released along with Aashiq Abu and Anurag Kashyp’s Rifle Club and Unni Mukundan’s Marco. Suraj Venjaramoodu’s ED could win some love upon its premiere in the OTT space. Announcements about the platform and release date are expected to be made soon.
Asif Ali’s Rekhachithram scored the first hit of Malayalam in 2025 with its unique plot and filmmaking. Director Jofin T Chacko effectively portrayed a thriller, which also featured Anaswara Rajan in a key role. The movie follows cop Vivek as he sets out to find the truth behind the case of a woman who went missing 40 years ago. Not just the general audiences, but even fellow stars such as Dulquer Salmaan and Keerthy Suresh have been praising the film. The film is much-awaited in the OTT space, though no official announcement has been made about the platform or release date.
