Malayalam cinema had an excellent run at both the theatres and OTT in 2024, with the releases of some highly acclaimed and commercially successful. Even though the second half of the year has been a bit underwhelming compared to the extraordinary first half, some interesting films were released in the theatres in the last few weeks and made a mark. Now, let’s have a look at the expected Malayalam OTT releases of December 2024, and the list includes Bougainvillea, Pani, I Am Kathalan, and more.
Malayalam OTT releases in December 2024 on Hotstar, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Sony LIV
Bougainvillea
The Amal Neerad directorial, which features Jyothirmayi and Kunchacko Boban in the lead roles and Fahadh Faasil in a cameo appearance, had its theatrical release in October 2024. As per the latest updates, Bougainvillea is gearing up for its grand debut in a leading OTT platform, in December 2024. The OTT partner and release date of the mystery crime thriller are yet to be announced.
Pani
The action thriller film, which marked the directorial debut of actor Joju George, emerged as a notable success at the box office. The actor-director himself played the lead role in Pani, which features Sagar Surya and Junaiz VP in pivotal roles, and hit the theatres by the last week of October 2024. After a successful theatrical run, the movie is expected to get an OTT release in December 2024. The makers are yet to announce the OTT partner of the Joju George directorial.

I Am Kathalan
Premalu duo, Naslen K Gafoor and Girish AD’s long-delayed project I Am Kathalan finally hit the theatres in November 2024. The movie, which is a well-made techno-thriller, failed to recreate the box office magic of the actor-director duo’s previous outing, and ended up as an average grosser. However, the recent updates suggest that the makers are planning to release I Am Kathalan on OTT, in December 2024. The OTT partner, release date, and other details are expected to be revealed soon.
Footage
Saiju Sreedharan, the popular film editor made his directorial debut with Footage, the Malayalam thriller film which hit the theatres in August 2024. Manju Warrier, Visakh Nair, and Gayathri Ashok played the lead roles in the film, which earned rave reviews from the critics but went largely unnoticed by the masses. After a long wait, Footage is expected to have its OTT release in December 2024. The makers are expected to make an official announcement on the same, very soon.
Mura
Muhammad Musthafa, the actor-filmmaker who earned rave reviews for his directorial debut Kappela, made a comeback to filmmaking with Mura. The movie, which features Suraj Venjaramoodu, Hridhu Haroon, and others in the pivotal roles, hit the theatres in November 2024. After an underwhelming theatrical run, Mura is expected to have its OTT release in December 2024. As per the reports, the OTT platform of the film is finalised, and a major announcement is expected soon.
Anand Sreebala
The mystery thriller film directed by newcomer Vishnu Vijay has been receiving decent reviews from the audiences and critics. Anand Sreebala, which features Arjun Ashokan in the titular role, and senior actress Sangita in a pivotal role, hit the theatres by mid-November 2024. If things go as planned, the movie will hit the OTT screens soon after completing its theatrical run, in December 2024.
