Most-awaited Bollywood OTT releases in April 2025 on Netflix, Prime Video, JioHotstar and more

April 2025 is set to be an exciting month for movie enthusiasts, offering a diverse lineup of theatrical and streaming releases. From action-packed thrillers and historical dramas to spine-chilling horror and heartwarming romances, this month promises a cinematic feast for every taste. Bollywood heavyweights such as Sunny Deol, Randeep Hooda, and Vicky Kaushal take center stage in epic tales of heroism, while streaming platforms offer gripping narratives like Chhorii 2, Chhaava and Superboys of Malegaon after their theatrical run. With a mix of sequels, biopics, and original stories, April's releases are sure to captivate audiences with their compelling plots, star-studded casts, and visual spectacle.

Jaat – April 10 (theatrical)

Jaat is an upcoming action thriller film produced by People Media Factory and written and directed by Gopichand Malineni (in his Hindi debut). Randeep Hooda plays the primary antagonist; Regina Cassandra plays the female lead, and Sunny Deol plays the lead. Supporting roles will feature Doulath Sulthana, Ayesha Khan, Zarina Wahab, Bandhavi Sridhar, Vishika Kota, Praneeta Patnaik, and Saiyami Kher. Additional antagonists include Vineet Kumar Singh, Ajay Ghosh, Jagapati Babu, Dayanand Shetty, and Babloo Prithiveeraj.

Phule – April 11 (theatrical)

With Pratik Gandhi portraying Mahatma Jyotirao Phule and Patralekhaa as his wife, Savitribai Phule, Phule brings to life the remarkable journey of this legendary couple who fought for education and equality in India. The film was directed by the acclaimed national filmmaker Ananth Mahadevan.

Phule tells the story of the fight against gender and caste inequality and the victories won by Jyotirao and Savitribai Phule. The tale of the Phules is one of unflinching bravery and perseverance in the face of adversity, from the founding of the first girls' school in India in Pune in 1848 to their groundbreaking work in advancing education and social reform throughout the British colonial era in India.

Chhorii 2 – April 11 (Prime Video)

Featuring Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Vikram Malhotra, and Jack Davis as producers, Chhorii 2 is an upcoming horror flick that was directed by Vishal Furia. Starring Nushrratt Bharuccha, Soha Ali Khan, Gashmeer Mahajani, and Saurabh Goyal, the film is a sequel to Chhorii (2021).

After escaping the tragedies of Chhorii seven years ago, Sakshi and her daughter Ishani now enjoy a tranquil life. Because of her uncommon ailment, Ishani must remain in darkness at all times; sunlight is toxic to her. Ishani, though, is still a courageous and joyful kid. As Ishani sleeps one night, a spectral figure enters her chamber and follows her like a possessed doll. Ishani is no longer in Sakshi's house when she gets back. She begs Inspector Samar for assistance in her last-ditch effort. They end up back in the village she vowed she would never return to as they continue their hunt. Ancient horrors await Sakshi and Samar in the labyrinthine sugarcane fields. A malevolent force separates them, and Sakshi encounters someone she thought was dead, only to find them unconscious. The townsfolk worship a wicked god in a subterranean cavern, where she awakens. Daasi, the priestess who can change her shape, has announced that they will sacrifice Ishani three days from now. To rescue her daughter, Sakshi must interrupt the ritual immediately.

Kesari Chapter 2 – April 18 (theatrical)

Historical drama Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh is set to be released soon and was produced by a group including Karan Singh Tyagi, Adar Poonawalla, Karan Johar, Aruna Bhatia, Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, Amritpal Singh Bindra, and Anand Tiwari. Karan Singh Tyagi and Amritpal Singh Bindra wrote the screenplay, and Marijke de Souza, Somen Mishra, and Vedant Baali served as co-producers.

The film is a spiritual sequel to Kesari (2019) and features Akshay Kumar as the valiant barrister Sir C. Sankaran Nair, who confronted the British Empire following the Jallianwala Bagh tragedy. Ananya Panday and R. Madhavan also play important roles.

The Bhootnii – April 18 (theatrical)

The upcoming horror-comedy action flick The Bhootnii was produced by Deepak Mukut and Sanjay Dutt and written and directed by Sidhaant Sachdev. Sanjay Dutt, Sunny Singh, and Mouni Roy are the stars of the film.

Ground Zero – April 25 (theatrical)

The film follows Emraan Hashmi's character, BSF Deputy Commandant Narendra Nath Dubey, as he uncovers a clandestine operation that changed the course of history; the plot is based on actual events. Hailed as BSF's most major operation in the last 50 years, he leads a two-year mission into a national security crisis. It showcases glimpses of strategic warfare, intense action, and the lasting impact of the 2001 Kashmir battle.

Jewel Thief – April 25 (Netflix)

The African Red Sun is the most coveted diamond in the world, and a notorious criminal lord has hired a jewel thief to get his hands on it. Then, his well-orchestrated theft goes haywire. This high-stakes race is a lethal game of treachery and deceit because of all the unforeseen alliances, twists, and chaos that ensue.

Loveyapa (JioHotstar)

The romantic comedy Loveyapa was helmed by Advait Chandan. Khushi Kapoor and Junaid Khan feature in this Bollywood adaptation of the Tamil film Love Today from 2022. The plot centres on a young couple who must exchange their phones before their marriage.

When forced to switch phones for a day, Gaurav and Baani's perfect relationship crumbles. Trust breaks down, secrets come out, and they begin to doubt everything. With the truth out, can their love endure?

Chhaava (Netflix)

The historical action film Chhaava stars Vicky Kaushal as Sambhaji Maharaj, the second emperor of the Maratha Empire. Directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films, it is an adaptation of the Marathi novel Chhava by Shivaji Sawant. Rashmika Mandanna and Akshaye Khanna are also part of the cast.

In their pursuit of expansion into the Deccan after the death of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the Mughals come face to face with Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the courageous son of the late ruler. It is based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, who bravely fought Aurangzeb but was ultimately betrayed in the process.

Mere Husband Ki Biwi (JioHotstar)

Produced by Vashu Bhagnani, Jackky Bhagnani, and Deepshikha Deshmukh under the brand of Pooja Entertainment, the romantic comedy Mere Husband Ki Biwi was written and directed by Mudassar Aziz. Starring Arjun Kapoor, Bhumi Pednekar, and Rakul Preet Singh in the lead roles.

Ankur, a Delhi-based professional, becomes caught up in a tangled web involving two ladies throughout the course of the film. He wed Prabhleen Kaur, his undergraduate sweetheart, but the couple quickly separated due to a rift in their relationship. While Ankur was still haunted by Prabhleen's memory three years later, he reconnected with Antara Khanna, the girl he was crushing on in college. Soon after, he made a grand proposal to Antara Khanna, to which she enthusiastically said yes. Their love blossomed shortly after. A terrible car accident left Ankur's ex-wife, Prabhleen, with retrograde amnesia on the day of the proposal. She wiped out the previous five years, including her divorce from Ankur. Emotional and humorous issues ensued when Prabhleen re-entered his world. There are hilarious moments, dramatic times, and a tonne of miscommunication as the competition between the two ladies heats up.

Superboys of Malegaon (Prime Video)

Reema Kagti and Varun Grover's Superboys of Malegaon is a coming-of-age film. Based on the true story of Nasir Shaikh and other amateur filmmakers from the sleepy town of Malegaon, the film was inspired by the 2008 documentary Supermen of Malegaon. Vineet Kumar Singh, Shashank Arora, Adarsh Gourav, and Anuj Singh Duhan are the actors featured in the film. 

Based on the true story of Malegaon native and amateur filmmaker Nasir Shaikh, Superboys of Malegaon is a biopic. Bollywood films provide the town's inhabitants with a welcome diversion from their mundane daily lives. Because of the residents of Malegaon, Nasir decides to film a documentary about their lives. To make his idea a reality, he rallies his misfit crew of buddies, breathing new life into the town. The film offers a moving and hopeful look at friendship, filmmaking, and the consequences of their intersection.
