Mohanlal and director Vysakh’s much-anticipated movie Monster, which hit theatres on October 21, will soon hit a streaming platform as well. The film was initially meant to be a direct-to-OTT release when it was first conceived in 2021. However, the makers had changed the plans after negotiations with streaming platforms didn’t work out and they thought a theatrical run – even for a limited time – would make sense for the movie.
Scripted by Udaykrishna, the movie is essentially a crime thriller. Apart from Mohanlal in the lead, the movie also has Sudev Nair, Honey Rose, Lakshmi Manchu, Lena, Ganesh Kumar, Swasika and Siddique in pivotal roles. A popular Telugu actor also makes a cameo appearance in the film.
The film, which is the second collaboration between Vysakh and Mohanlal, after their blockbuster Pulimurugan, has the superstar essaying the role of a Punjabi-Malayali entrepreneur named Lucky Singh, who flies down to Kerala to sell his flat and return the same day. His path crosses that of cab driver Bhamini, who is set to ring in her first wedding anniversary with her family. How Lucky’s presence in their lives brings them delight as well as tragedy and his true intentions form the plot of the movie, which was Mohanlal’s second theatrical release this year after Aaraattu.
Monster’s OTT rights have been bought by Disney+ Hotstar, which had also released his previous two direct-to-OTT films, Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Bro Daddy and Jeethu Joseph’s 12th Man. The film’s satellite rights were picked by Asianet. The film is expected to drop on the streaming service in a month’s time by November third week.
Mohanlal, meanwhile, also has Alone coming up. The thriller, which is directed by Shaji Kailas, is set during the pandemic and is a single-actor movie. Prithviraj and Manju Warrier have lent voices for characters in the film, which is scripted by Rajesh Jayaraman.
