Kannada cinema’s Natarakshasa Daali Dhananjaya’s latest film is Monsoon Raaga, which released in theatres today. The film, directed by S Ravindranath and produced by Vikhyath AR, is the Kannada remake of the critically-acclaimed Telugu film C/O Kancharapalem, which also stars Rachita Ram, Achyuth Kumar, Suhasini Maniratnam, Yasha Shivakumar and Shivank, among others.

The film was initially meant to be an August 12 release, which was pushed ahead to the 19th and then again to September 16. Monsoon Raaga, which has music by Anoop Seelin and cinematography by SK Rao, opened to mostly positive reviews, with many appreciative of the film’s technical finesse and the background score, all of which elevated the viewing experience.

The film’s narrative follows four separate and unconventional love stories, presented in non-linear fashion. Rachita plays a commercial sex worker, a first in the actress’ career, which she did only because she shares a certain comfort factor with the team, having done another movie with them earlier. “I had done a film called Pushpaka Vimana with the same team, so, these are people I like and respect. They see cinema as a passion and that reflects in their work. When I was approached for the role, I did not okay it immediately, but at the back of my mind I knew that I trusted them. To ease my mind further, they said that I should see how they are going to present my character onscreen and that if I was not satisfied, they would reshoot it they way I like. This is a kind of role that can be presented in myriad ways. The beauty of how they have presented my character will be for all to see on August 19, when the film releases in theatres. But this, I think, is the right platform to thank them for the job well done,” she had said.

The satellite and digital rights of the film have been sold. Zee Network has picked up the rights, so Monsoon Raaga will drop on Zee5 Kannada and Zee Kannada, respectively for OTT and TV, at some point. Details of the deal as to when the film will start streaming are yet to be revealed, but the trend these days is to release at least 48 days after the theatrical outing.
