Monsoon Raaga was one of Kannada actor Daali Dhananjaya’s most anticipated films until word spread that it was but a remake, after the trailer was released. Turns out, director S Ravindranath’s immaculately shot film was a very polished version of the Telugu hit, C/O Kancharapalem. While the original featured a cast of non-actors, the Kannada version had a slew of known names headlining it.
Like the original, the film’s narrative follows four separate and unconventional love stories, presented in non-linear fashion, including two school kids, young adults Joseph (Shivank) and Ragsudha (Yasha Shivakumar), Katte (Dhananjaya) and Aasma (Rachita) and Raju (Achyuth Kumar) and Haasini (Suhasini). The film was a very faithful remake, with great visuals by cinematographer SK Rao and music by Anoop Seelin. Rachita plays a commercial sex worker in the film, which was a first for the actress. At the teaser launch she had said that she agreed to the role because she knew the team and was confident that they’d shoot her portions aesthetically. Rachita had earlier done Pushpaka Vimana with them.
Monsoon Raaga, which hit theatres on September 16, after two postponements in August, had finalized its satellite and digital partners prior to the release. Zee Network had scooped up both, making Zee5 Kannada the streaming platform. The film, we hear, will drop on the streamer in just over a month since it came to movie halls. Although the film received fairly favourable reviews, it did not work at the box office, which is probably why it’s coming to OTT soon enough. According to the latest, Monsoon Raaga will premiere on Zee5 Kannada on December 9. You can watch the film by subscribing to OTTplay premium.
