After hitting theatres earlier this month, Malayalam movie Momo in Dubai, which has Anu Sithara, Aneesh G Menon and Johny Antony as part of the cast, is gearing up for its OTT release. The movie, which is helmed by Ameen Aslam and is written by Sudani from Nigeria director Zakariya and Ayisha writer Ashif Kakkodi.
The film, which has child artiste Athrey Baijuraj essaying the titular role of Momo, revolves around his wish to visit Burj Khalifa in Dubai. Aneesh essays the role of his father, who is struggling financially but still manages to bring his family to the United Arab Emirates. Amid his struggles to get a new job and provide a better life for his family, Momo sets out on his own adventure that leads to further troubles for the family.
In an earlier interview with OTTplay, Anu, who plays Momo’s mother Khadija in the movie, said that though her character is that of a typical homemaker that the audience is familiar with, she is also someone who has strong opinions and isn’t afraid to voice them.
“I would not call Momo in Dubai an out and out children’s entertainer. Although the film progresses through Momo’s point of view, his family and every other character in the film have their own importance. So it is a film one should see with their whole family. I think most of us love watching children’s films because it brings out the nostalgia in us as well, and we can relate to many of them as well,” said the actress, in the interview.
Momo in Dubai also caught headlines as it is among the few Malayalam movies produced by an Emirati director. Apart from Harris Desom, Zakariya and Anish PB, the film was bankrolled by Nahla Al Fahad.
The movie’s OTT rights have been bagged by Manorama Max, which is expected to begin streaming the film by March-April this year. The streaming platform has also clinched the rights for the comedy entertainer Enkilum Chandrike.
