Mollywood gears up for 51st Kerala State Film Awards

Putting an end to the curious wait of the Malayalam cinema industry, the prestigious Kerala State Film Awards will be announced today, at 3 pm. Mr Saji Cheriyan, The minister of Kerala Film Development Corporation and Chalachitra Academy, will be revealing the results, and according to the latest reports, the jury has already finished the screenings of final round films. 

About 80 films released in 2020 will be competing for the State awards this year, which will be further shortlisted and recommended by the initial juries, to the final juries. The jury is headed by renowned actress-filmmaker Suhasini Maniratnam this time, under whom there are several popular names on board including filmmaker Bhadran, Kannada director P Sheshadri, music director Mohan Sithara, sound designer M Harikumar, cinematographer C K Muraleedharan and critic-screenwriter N Sasidharan.

This would also be the first state award announcement after the introduction of a revised set of rules. Meanwhile, critic Dr P K Rajashekaran has also been appointed to the jury as the chairman of a special committee, to decide the literary awards.

Some of the strong films which are reported to be on the list are Malik, Ayyappanum Koshiyum, The Great Indian Kitchen, and CU Soon. If the reports are to be believed, the major actors who are expected to make bigger headlines are Fahadh Faasil, Indrans, Biju Menon, Suraj Venjaramodu, Jayasurya and Tovino Thomas. Reportedly, they have also succeeded in entering the final lap of the race, even though this is not confirmed officially yet. 

On the other side, Shobana, Nimisha Sajayan, Samyuktha Menon, Parvathy Thiruvothu and Anna Ben are buzzed to be the bunch who are competing for the Best Actress trophy this time.
