Empuraan director Prithviraj Sukumaran shares an update

Empuraan was initially set to go on floors in August 2023. But after Prithviraj met with an accident during the final few days of shooting of Jayan Nambiar’s Vilayath Buddha, the producers of the film and Mohanlal decided to do Jeethu Joseph’s courtroom drama Neru instead.

This is not the first time that Aashirvad Cinemas had substituted Jeethu and Prithviraj’s films . They did the same when 12th Man was delayed due to the weather conditions and prevailing COVID-19 restrictions in Kerala in 2021 and decided to go ahead with Prithviraj’s Bro Daddy in Hyderabad instead.

Meanwhile, Prithviraj took to his social media to thank the medical professionals who had assisted in his recovery, after undergoing a knee surgery following the accident. The actor-filmmaker said that he had to undergo gruelling physiotherapy and rehab sessions – lasting as much as 9 hours per day – to speed up his recovery in the initial days.

Though the actor said “complete recovery is still a while away” and that he will have to stick to the rehab process, it’s unclear how this could affect the shoot of the movie, which has been planned across several countries and different terrains with Prithviraj also expected to play a leading role this time.

‘No promo shoot for Empuraan’

While the makers are expected to drop an update on September 29, Prithviraj had earlier confirmed that it will have “no promo shoot per se”. He had posted that the update will be the start of the film’s shoot date as well as a few other details regarding the project. The movie is also expected to have a huge star cast, much like Lucifer that had Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, Manju Warrier, Vivek Oberoi and Saniya Iyyappan.
