Mohanlal is fast wrapping up the principal photography of his directorial debut Barroz: Guardian of D’Gama’s Treasure. As the movie reaches its final stages of shooting, a lot of its casting details too are emerging.
The Malayalam superstar has roped in Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham and Ittymani: Made in China co-star Komal Sharma for a role in the upcoming 3D children’s fantasy. Talking about the film in an interview to IANS, Komal said that being part of the venture is almost like an award-winning experience for her.
She lauded Mohanlal’s directorial skills for the film, which also has Guru Somasundaram in a pivotal role. The actress, who was also part of Priyadarshan’s Hungama 2, said that Mohanlal treats newcomers as well as leading stars with the same respect and ensures they understand the narration perfectly. The actress also stresses that Mohanlal could have chosen an all-out commercial film to make his directorial debut but instead he wanted to do Barroz, which appealed to children as well as pays importance to family sentiments.
Further on the scale on which the movie is mounted, Komal said that Barroz isn’t a pan-Indian but a “pan-world film”. Apart from the Indian languages, the movie will also be released in several foreign languages including English, Portuguese, Mandarin and Arabic.
The movie has award-winning cinematographer Santosh Sivan cranking the camera. In an earlier interview with OTTplay, Santosh said he has always regarded Mohanlal as a man with a vision. “He likes to do things his way and that will reflect when you watch Barroz. It’s a visual film that doesn’t have a conventional story. It’s got magical realism,” said the cinematographer.
Mohanlal and Santosh will work together again in Priyadarshan’s second segment in the Netflix anthology based on MT Vasudevan Nair’s stories. The segment titled Olavum Theeravum also has Hareesh Peradi, Durga Krishna and Mammukkoya.
