Mohanlal's 'mass' entertainer Neyyattinkara Gopante Aaraattu aka Aaraattu has finally dropped online, after is theatrical run. The movie, which hit theatres in mid February, is directed by B Unnikrishnan and scripted by Pulimurugan fame Udaykrishna.
The movie, which received mixed reviews after its theatrical release, revolved around Mohanlal's character Neyyattinkara Gopan, who comes to a village in Palakkad at the behest of a loan shark. He soon sides with the villagers and ensure that he fulfils his task. However, his mission doesn't end there and over time, it is revealed that Gopan isn't just a real estate broker.
The film, which marked Mohanlal's second theatrical release since the pandemic after Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham, was bought at a high price by Amazon Prime Video, where it is streaming from March 20.
Shraddha Srinath, Nedumudi Venu, Johny Antony, Swasika, Rachana Narayanankutty, Ashwin Kkumar, Lukman Avaran, Saikumar and Vijayaraghavan play pivotal roles in the movie. Aaraattu also marked AR Rahman's comeback to Malayalam after 30 years. The ace musician played a cameo as himself in the film's climax portions.
Aaraattu is packed with references from Mohanlal's previous films such as Chandralekha, Narasimham, Lucifer, Aaraam Thampuran, Chithram and Ravanaprabhu. Scriptwriter Udaykrishna had earlier told us that film was his "fanboy tribute to Lalettan and his movies".
Meanwhile, Udaykrishna has also scripted Mohanlal's upcoming movie Monster, which is directed by Vysakh. The scriptwriter said that the upcoming film, which also has Sudev Nair, Honey Rose and Lakshmi Manchu, is an investigative thriller that is very different from his previous 'mass' entertainers. The movie, which is currently in its post-production phase, is expected to be an OTT release. The makers are however yet to officially confirm this.
